Confirm that both the bulb and dimmer support LED use.
Keep heat under control.
Avoid placing a bulb in a fixture that is too small or blocks air movement unless the bulb is approved for that setting.
Use the correct brightness.
A bulb with the right lumen output can reduce the need to use extra lamps.
Inspect the socket.
Make sure the bulb fits properly and the socket is clean and undamaged.
Track repeated failures.
If several bulbs fail in one place, inspect the fixture, switch, sensor, or wiring.
A bulb may stop working before its rated hours for several reasons. The fixture may trap heat. The bulb may not match the dimmer. The socket may have a poor connection. A sensor may switch it on and off many times each day. Moisture may enter an indoor-only bulb used outside.
The rated lifespan is a test-based estimate, not a promise that every bulb will reach the same number of hours. Product conditions and home conditions are different.
A practical example is a porch light. A bulb used inside a dry, open fixture may perform well for years. The same type of bulb placed in a covered outdoor fitting may face moisture and temperature changes. A weather-suitable model is a better match for that location.
I replace an LED bulb when it:
A bulb that is slightly dimmer after years of use may still provide enough light for a hallway. A bulb with flicker can be uncomfortable in a workspace, so I treat that problem more seriously.
LED lifespan depends on more than the number printed on the box. Heat, fixture design, daily use, dimmers, moisture, and power quality all shape the result. When I match the bulb to the room and check the fitting, I reduce early failures and make the lighting system easier to maintain.
